In order to take part in the Monark ecosystem and take advantage of our advanced v4 AMM features, you’ll need to bridge your Bitcoin (BTC) into Rootstock (RBTC).
RBTC is your key to unlocking the full potential of Rootstock’s decentralized applications (dApps) and DeFi protocols, all while being secured by the strength of Bitcoin’s proof-of-work.
RBTC, often referred to as “Smart Bitcoin”, is pegged 1:1 to BTC and is used to pay gas fees and interact with the smart contracts that power Monark’s ecosystem.
A blockchain bridge acts as a secure gateway, enabling you to transfer assets from one blockchain to another. When bridging Bitcoin to Rootstock, your BTC is locked on the Bitcoin mainchain, and an equivalent amount of RBTC is issued on Rootstock, ready to be used within the Rootstock ecosystem.
There are several ways to bridge BTC into RBTC, ranging from Rootstock’s native PowPeg to third-party dApps and services that simplify the process. Here are the primary methods:
PowPeg is Rootstock’s dedicated trustless bridge, designed to allow seamless BTC transfers into the Rootstock network.
is:
Secure: Protected by Bitcoin’s proof-of-work and a robust pegging mechanism.
Permissionless: No intermediaries are required.
Uncensorable: Decentralized, ensuring no one can interfere with the process.
The process of using PowPeg takes around 16 hours (100 Bitcoin blocks) to complete, but once finalized, you will have RBTC available in your wallet.
For those looking for faster options, several decentralized applications (dApps) have integrated bridging services to help you convert BTC to RBTC quickly and efficiently. These include:
Once you’ve bridged your BTC to RBTC using one of these methods, you’ll be ready to explore the full range of features on Monark.
